Revitalized Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term mentor his previous coach.
Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since March of that year.
The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one various competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, comprising in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.
But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an improved serving game.
The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The pair swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.
He saved four early-game break points in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.
Suitably, he earned the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
